Menzerna Power Lock Sealant Review with Pictures

by

I knew Menzerna had been in the making for their first produced sealant, and in early March a few of the DI team members had the opportunity to test the product and see how it would stack up with the rest of the Menzerna line that is considered the standard for paint correcting compounds and polishes by many top pro’s.

The product description from the site reads :

Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant is Menzerna’s first pure sealant that will give your paint a deep shine and valuable protection. The polymers tightly link together to form an invisible barrier against all kinds of contaminants. It will repel industrial fallout, road grime, brake dust, moisture, bugs, dirt, dust, etc. This makes cleaning your vehicle in the future much easier and safer. The Power Lock also offers an amazing shine that makes any color paint look amazing. It does not have that cheap plastic like look, instead it has a deeper shine and gloss that rivals carnauba waxes. You can apply this product by hand or with a buffer. Use the Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant and you’ll see why Menzerna is regarded as one of the top manufacturers of high quality detailing supplies.

The description couldn’t be written any more perfect. To add to the information and give you something to compare it to I’ll tell you this. The ease of application and removal is very similar to that of Blackfire Wet Diamond. We all know how much we love that product and how easy it is to use so Menzerna has added yet another superior product to their detailing arsenal. Did I mention it is extremely slick too?  You can apply using a Porter Cable 7424 or by hand. When using the PC a Blue or Black pad works best. One quarter sized drop will go a long way. Apply until the product residue is barely visible, then add more. I typically use speed 4.5 for this step. It gives me a thin even layer which makes for extra easy removal. If you’re applying by hand, simply use a Microfiber Applicator or a Foam Applicator and apply. The one thing you don’t have to worry about is this sealant sticking to the paint. Make your way around the entire car then come back to wipe away using your ReThickulous Towel.

The only thing I can’t fully document yet is the durability. It’s only been about 3 weeks so far but as of now, the future is promising. If it holds up like Blackfire, you can expect 3-6 solid months of protection depending on conditions. I will report back when a few months have passed on any updates.

In the meantime, here are some cars that have been sealed using Menzerna Power Lock via Blue LC Pad.

Once Menzerna Power Lock is on the market longer, I have no doubt it will be one of the most talked about sealants that delivers unbeatable results. Also remember, there are two sizes available to fit your needs…a 16oz bottle for the weekend warriors and the 32 oz size for the pro’s.

Thank you for taking time to view this article. If you have any questions, please let us know.

  1. Nice writeup DJ, and beautiful photos! I have been testing a bit with the new Power Lock and have experienced the same findings as you so far. The product is very similar to Blackfire Wet Diamond, goes on and comes off with very little effort, is extremely slick, and looks great too. I plan on using it on my DD this weekend so I can test durability as well.

So far it is a two thumbs-up product in my book!

      Hello Todd

I have used JetSeal 109 on my red Audi A5 as well as Blackfire Wet Diamond. Personally JetSeal has given better results in 2 months of application. I’m curios to test the Power Lock is it worth it?

Any latest update on Power Lock??

Are either of you planning to top it with a wax or just test it out alone? Would you top any other sealant with a wax to add more protection or is the sealant enough? I just got a couple of bottles of Power Lock and just waiting for time and better weather to try it out.

    Thanks,
    Don

  3. DJ Mayo says:

    Don-

I RARELY top a sealant with a wax. Not saying you can’t or that it’s wrong but a sealant is simply enough protection on it’s on with a fantastic look. Sometimes I get certain customers that want me to apply their wax they own as they are using it in the future. Hope this helps.

  4. Alex Ho says:

DJ, what are your experiences of a sealant such as Power Lock or WFBD versus a great wax like Collinite 845 in terms of glossiness and durability? I have a bottle of 845 and am debating whether I should buy a sealant for my obsidian black Lexus IS 250.

  5. Don says:

    DJ,
Thanks for the info. Not sure how I will attack the car as I have the Power Lock, and some Pinnacle Souveran, as well as Wolfgang Fuzion to use on my 2003 Redfire Mustang Cobra. I guess it is good to have options. 🙂

    Great review.

  7. DJ Mayo says:

    Thank you everyone!

As far as how does it compare to a wax, well for me I much rather use a sealant instead. I’m usually doing some correction before hand so either way, the finished result will look great with proper prep. I just choose the sealant because the durability will be there while being extremely easy to use. After many long hours polishing, the last thing I want to do is fight with a wax or sealant on the application and removal process. With Power Lock or Black Diamond, the application and removal is too easy to pass up, not to mention slicker than an wax I have ever used. If you feel the need to use a wax, do so a day later but use a sealant as a base. Hope this helps.

  8. DJ Funky says:

Very nice!!! This is indeed a promising product.

Other competitors’ cheaper products such as the NXT 2.0 streak too much. This one has no signs of streaking, and no one has reported so thus far. I am confident that this product will almost be as durable as some of the best sealants out there.

From these pictures, I notice that this sealant looks especially good on silver. It gives the silver color a very deep reflection not seen on other sealants.

Would you suggest putting two layers of this sealant on the paint? What about putting a layer of carnauba wax on top?

  9. paint medic says:

Can anyone comment on a comparison between Menzerna FMJ and Power lock? I see comments made about Power lock being Menzerna’s first true sealant? Im confused.

  10. 9S says:

    Great Review too.

  11. Iczy says:

FMJ is not manufactured by Menzerna in the first place. It’s CMA. So Power Lock is the first sealant truly produced by Menzerna.

  12. Rick says:

I would also like to here a comparison between Power Lock and FMJ, if anyone has one. Thanks.

  13. DJ Mayo says:

    Rick-

While I have not used FMJ, I cannot help you on that. Maybe one of the other pro’s will chime in. All I can say it that with the ease of application and removal, Power Lock is hard to beat for the 3-4 months of solid protection it will provide.

i used this on my 2008 and 2009 heritage edition chrysler 300’s…..wow i am impressed. it has rained on the cars the last couple of days and they did not spot at all…..it is so slick that things just roll off…..very nice shine also…..great product

  15. DJ Mayo says:

Quick update, I just did a clients car again that was in these photos and there was a decent amount of protection still on the paint of a daily driver. This time around was a maintenance job and it cleaned up super easy.

    • e90M3-6MT says:

can you layer the power lock or any sealant for that matter. I love the slickness of zymol concours wax, do you think the sealant is as slick in terms of the water sheeting off the car without leaving any droplets on the paint. ie: will I still be able to dry my car with water while having a longer application interval.

      • Smdetail says:

I just used Power lock for the first time on a customers black boxster. I am very impressed with ease of application and removal. The slickness is awesome! Obviously I don’t know about longevity but will update. I have used FMJ in the past and find a lot of similarities. I remember being a big fan of FMJ related to ease of use and slickness as well, my only disappointments were the amount of dusting, which I also see in Powerlock. I also was a little let down by the longevity of the FMJ so I switched. I did do a two stage polish with a high speed then with a PC for correction on this Porsche but I really like power lock so far, the shine is very deep and glossy. Just my 2 cents!

  16. sm says:

What kind of durability you can expect in winter?
How well it works together with cleaners like Prima Amigo/AF Tripple/Carlack NSC?

  17. Martin says:

Anyone try this outy on gel coat?

  18. David says:

    Hi DJ,
Fascinating review. I’ve just taken delivery of a jag XJ in Italian racing red, but requires constant cleaning. I was going to apply Meguiars Tech Wax 2.0. I’m keen to protect the finish, but also to aid and ease the cleaning regime.
Be most grateful for any suggestions.
    Many thanks.

I used the Menzerna after washing and claying my Imola Red 2001 BMW Roadster that has very good paint having been a summer only car in the Midwest now in Florida. I was impressed with the slickness and double coated the horizontal surfaces. After a couple weeks I decided to work on a couple of swirls I had found with some Griots #3 fine polish. The polish did about 1/2 of what I wanted so it looks like something stronger will be needed. I then recoated with the Menzernas. After 1 Concours (1st in class) I then drove the car in a light mist and about 125 miles over the next two weeks. I was surprised that the slickness has substantially decreased, While the shine still looks good, the slickness that it had, has decreased. I redid the car again today and we will see how it goes. A bit disappointing for a car that spends 99% of it’s time under a soft Covercraft cover in a temp controlled garage.

  20. Dimitry says:

Applied 2 coats of power lock to a fresh paint surface of a 135i jet black BMW. First coat using DA letting it sit for an hour before buffing. Second coat applied 18 hours later by hand using foam applicator. Again letting it sit for one hour before buffing off. Let it cure over the weekend since I drive the car 3-4 times a week. Results were outstanding as everyone pointed out. I’ve read through some forums how great the durability is, but no one can give an exact answer. The product was on the car for 1 month. I don’t have the patience to wait, so I got curious to see how many times I would
Have to use chemical guys citrus wash to remove the product. Well the answer is 4. All washes were performed in 4 consecutive days. Again not sure how long this product will last for a daily driving, but seeing that it held up that well against a product thats designed to remove any wax or sealant it’s 5 stars 2 thumbs up !!

  21. Rick says:

I love this product but am wondering how do you get your pads clean after using it??? I have used the Snappy’s powder at different concentrations but cannot get my pads clean.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Rick

  22. Michael says:

When using power lock can I leave it on the car for 12 hours before buffing it off or would that be a waste of time

    • Michael says:

I was also thinking about putting Gyeon wet captain over lock for some added protection?

    • Reece @ DI says:

Michael – After applying the Power Lock, you do not want to wait 12 hours before buffing the excess off. This will cause the excess to be extremely hard to remove and not yield high end results. Instead, apply the Power Lock panel by panel until the entire car is finished, then make your way back around and remove the excess with a clean microfiber towel. After you remove all the excess we recommend waiting at least an hour before topping it with a wax or another layer of sealant, by waiting 12 hours (if possible) will allow the sealant to cure, yielding the best results in performance once it hits everyday contamination when driving.
