Product Review: Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel

by

All I should say in this review is “FINALLY!”  I have been using this towel for a very long time now, pretty much my entire detail career.  After going through everything from cheap $0.50 towels from Costco to expensive $6-10+ towels from premium sources online, I have found the Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel to be the best all around towel.  Thus, I am very happy to finally see Detailed Image carry it.

Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel 3 pack is perfect for interior cleanings and on the exterior for removing: clay lube, polishes, glazes, sealants, waxes, etc. These three identical towels are from Meguiar’s so you know it is great quality, super soft and absorbent. It measures 16″ x 24″, making it extremely useful at covering a large amount of surface area. Remember this size towel is 50% larger than similar 16″ x 16″ towels. The micro-pores on each fiber will trap contaminants and particles allowing you to remove them from the surface safely and easily. Your vehicle has many delicate surfaces that you don’t want to risk adding fine scratches to because they are easily seen, like the: clear coat, navigation and DVD screens, LED displays, center console, gauges, coated wood, glass, wheels and more. Don’t forget about the interior because this towel is great for leather care, glass care, polishing, dusting, around the house cleanings and much more. You can wash these towels (no fabric softener) and re-use them over and over again. The 3x large microfiber towels in this bundle make this an outstanding value for any detailer! If you are looking for a high quality, multi use microfiber towel then look no further, the Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel 3 pack is for you.

The main reason I like this towel is the size.  As it says in the description, the 16″x 24″ size is 50% larger than most towels, which means a lot less towels to wash at the end of a detail job.  As described in my article How I Use A Microfiber Towel To Remove Polish or Wax Residue, I like to fold the towel in half twice until I’m working with a 8″ x 6″ side.  I use 2 sides per 1 section that I’ve waxed or polished, so this towel allows me to work with roughly 8 sections as opposed to only 4 or so with a 16″ x 16″ towel.  Not that 16″ x 16″ towels are bad, I have plenty of those as well, but this size just makes residue removal much more convenient.

The performance is very good for a towel that’s not the fluffiest and heaviest out there.  Unless I’m dealing with a very oily polish or wax, even just wiping down a section with one 8″ x 6″ side will remove most or all of any residue.  This is just another plus in addition to the larger size that allows me to use only a few towels while moving around the car during a polishing or waxing session.

Another great thing about the Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel is the durability.  I can normally use one of these towels on paint for months before I feel like it should be demoted to the wheel and door jamb pile.  Not only does it last a long time on paint, but keeps performing its best even while I use it to clean up jambs, apply tire dressings, and lightly polish exhaust tips.  In fact, I don’t throw these towels away until they’ve gone from detail duty to help with oil changes in my garage.  Even then, I can use them numerous times to collect spilled oil and wipe down surfaces before I consider them completely dirty and toss them out.  In short, I use some of these towels for years for detailing and later garage/mechanical work, so as you can imagine I still have some that I purchased over 2 years ago!

As you can easily tell, I like the Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel a lot and it is the one I reach for more than any other during a detail job.  I have about 100 of them available for use immediately and probably another 100-150 brand new in boxes waiting to be called upon.  I can easily recommend this to any detailer or detail enthusiast out there, and I myself will keep buying and using these towels until they don’t make them anymore.  Let’s just hope that never happens! 🙂

Thanks for reading and hope it was helpful!

I have been using the Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel for a while now and compared to the microfibers with the hard stitched edges or curled ends, this microfiber I cant say I have any complaints about…plush and soft and a regular use.

Ivan, after reading you review I ordered 3 pack from DI. some of the best money I have spend detailing. I’m going to get some more cause all of my Walmart rags have been demoted to door jambs and wheel work so the Meg’s will be for paint only.

Glad I could help! It is a great product indeed and I’m happy you get to enjoy it as well Bruce.

  5. David B says:

    Your enthusiasm is contageous Ivan!

I was all set to order DI’s Maximum MF package deal @ $219.00 which includes about 40 16X16 towels plus a mix of other mini towels and 4 large waffles etc . . .

After reading your glowing review of these 16X24 Meg towels I reset the calculator. For $160.00 we can get 60 of these Megs for $180.00, also from DI

Either way, the two options are a fair enough investment for something that I’ve not been able to compare first hand for quality. I see the blue DI towels in use by all kinds of pros too . . . any advice or insights? Or reason for personal preference?

    Thanks for a great review!
    David

    • Ivan Rajic says:

It’s basically personal preference David. I have been using these for the longest time, then when Meg’s decided to complicate the packaging of their towels, I started looking for an alternative. At that time I talked Greg into getting some other 16×24 sizes as I find that much easier to use than 16×16, and he kindly obliged within a few weeks with the 16×24 DI 2 sided towel. You can see my review of that one here… (https://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-Pro/review-di-microfiber-two-sided-large-towel/)

Now we use the two almost 50/50 at the shop as we still have a lot of the Meg’s and find the thinner towels easier for certain tasks.

OOPS! 60 16X24 Meg towels for $180.00 (not $160 as in my previous post) Sorry ’bout that!

  7. Jack says:

    Morning ivan. Nice article thx
Can I also use the di all purpose black for removing polish/wax?
That is what I currently use?
Are they safe for removal of polish and wax?

    • Ivan Rajic says:

      Hi Jack,

Yes you can use the all purpose black for that task. They are surely safe and good towels, I simply find this Meguiar’s towel and the above mentioned DI 16×24 towel better and easier to use.
