Product Review: NanoSkin AutoScrub Wash Mitt

by

A lot of us have grown to love the Nanoskin Autoscrub system. It is a time saver when decontaminating the paint. In my article on the Nanoskin Foam Pads I discussed the benefits of the system, and how to properly use them.

I love the pads for vans and larger vehicles, but for smaller cars I found myself always using the pads by hand. Why by hand?! For me, I like to be able to feel and hear the contamination on the paint. Sound is a big thing, the tone of the pad being moved across the surface changes when the contaminates are removed, when using a polisher this isn’t something you can hear over the machine.

Because of the above reasons, my new go to is the Nanoskin Wash Mitt. I am able to use my hand inside the mitt to better feel and hear contamination being removed. My procedure for using the wash mitt is to start with a standard 2 bucket wash method. I like to remove any particles that may be on the surface. Although, it can be used without the wash, I err on the side of safety. After my wash, I will fill up a new bucket with my CG Citrus Wash and Clear, and dip my Mitt. I will then gently go over the surface in small back and forth motions, decontaminating a panel at a time. After each panel, the mitt is rinsed the the bucket. This allows more soap to be used ensuring there is not marring to the surface.

Be very gentle on hard body lines and edges. Too much pressure and the polymer on the Mitt can transfer to the painted surface.  Also, don’t use any of the Nanoskin products around solvents like Tarminator, these products will cause the polymer on the Mitt to “melt” or soften them to the point that the Mitt could be useless.

As always thanks for reading! 🙂

Looks promising! How come the NanoSkin AutoScrub pad requires a clay lube like Glide, but the NanoSkin Wash Mitt can get away with using a normal car shampoo?

A tip I learned a long time ago since…soap is a great lubricate and buying a separate advertised lubricate for claying or using the Nanoskin is a waste of money. I simply put a cap full or two of the car wash soap I’m using into a 16-20 oz ish pump spray bottle and mix water in with it. I’ve been doing this since the first time I clayed a car and now it works just as well with the Nanoskin that I started using last year.

    Andy,
For me its a matter of splatter. If you were to use the pad on a DA with soap, you would splash it everywhere. Soap can be a great lubricant. I wash the re-foam to ensure proper lubrication. Constantly dipping my mitt in a bucket of soapy water.

    Greg 🙂

I rinse the wash mitt to rinse, and ensure proper lubrication.

    Don’t know where that went…:o

Sounds great. Thanks for the tips, Greg!

I’m thinking about using the NanoSkin AutoScrub Fine Wash Mitt. Does it haze the finish of the car at all, do you need to polish after using it?

  6. sai says:

If I use this Nano skin pad with lubricant, do I still need to use clay bar befor I wax my car ?

  7. Brian Guy says:

These Nano Skin wash mitts are great. I really like them a lot to Greg.

I’ve found that polishing will be needed after use. And that’s a great tip about them melting…. I would also avoid using if the paint is to warm.

  8. Stanley harley says:

Can it be used just to refresh your paint so to speak without having to polish afterwards? I have Opti Coat 2.0 on my car and I can feel the contaminants in the coating after 6 months. Can I use the nano skin mitt to remove it and call it a day?

  9. Michelle says:

How many washes should you get out of one mitt

    • Reece @ DI says:

Michelle – It is really hard to give an exact number of washes that you will receive with this mitt. It all depends on how much embedded contamination you are removing on each wash and mitt care. If you care for the mitt well and the contamination you are removing is on the average end, this mitt can easily be used 30 or more times. Hopefully that helps!

  10. Barry says:

I made the mistake of leaving it in its plastic in my car on a hot day. Oh well…
