Video: Has Your Paint Coating Failed, or Could it be Something Else?

by

Are you wondering if your paint coating has failed prematurely? Is it no longer hydrophobic and is water laying on the paint flatly? If so, how can one know for sure if your coating has failed?

At its core, you need to get to the coated surface and ensure all surface products and contaminates are removed before one can inspect the actual water properties of the coating layer. In the video below, I will show you one example of what some interpret as a paint coating failure, as well as some possible solutions for be sure your coating is fresh and clean.

I’m sure it depends on the coating but curious as to how aggressive one can get when decon’g what appears to be a failed coating? Clay OK?

Here in NE Ohio the lower panels certainly lose their ‘coating behavior’ by the end of a daily driven winter.

Will have to pay attention at next wash when not using Gyeon Bathe+.

Gonna polish off last Springs coating in a month or two to switch products…will have to try increasingly aggressive decon before doing that to see what (if anything) improves on those panels. Interesting.

Love this article dude, from the last time we spoke on this, I have totally changed the way I look at water behavior on coated vehicles. And in a lot of cases treat the water beading issues in a different way. Awesome topic!

Would a next step if the coating is still not hydrophobic be to clay bar?

Also, what is that wand you are using? I could use one of those. haha.

Great topic to cover. Lots of mis-information surrounding coatings as they are relatively new.
