3M Paint Defender

by

Interested in applying clear bra like protection, without the time, effort and price!? Well, the Paint Defender system from 3M could be your answer! This easy to use spray on protection will apply a clear bra like film over the desired area of your car, resulting in a durable layer of protection that will easily last a year. This product may be perfect for those traveling long distances and want strong protection, but don’t want the expense of a clear bra.  It could also be perfect for protection against highway driving and those nasty love bugs. Another plus is that it can be both applied and removed seasonally when the love bugs come out.

Take a look at the three products used in this system below and find out exactly how they work. You will also find an incredibly informative video of these products in action!

The 3M Paint Defender system consists of three products, the Paint Defender Application Kit, the Paint Defender Spray, and the Paint Defender Spray Trigger (all pictured above). Simply unravel the Application Kit’s plastic sheeting to cover your car. Use a pair of scissors to cut a hole in the plastic to uncover the areas you want to treat with the Paint Defender Spray. Then you can use the included masking tape to tape the plastic down and to create a clean edge for the film. This Application Kit includes enough plastic sheeting and masking tape for multiple protection jobs! Once this kit is applied you can spray the Paint Defender Spray film onto the uncovered painted area of your vehicle and the liquid will dry to a continuous clear film! For easier and more even spraying attach the 3M Paint Defender Spray Trigger to the Paint Defender Spray before application. Once you let this spray dry, you will be left with a clear film that will protect your paint from rock chips, bugs, sand, salt, and other everyday driving hazards! This film easily lasts a year and can last much longer but when you want to remove it simply peel it off the surface. Take a look at these products in action in the video below and pick up everything you need in this easy to use 3M Paint Defender Kit!

Would love to see a review of this!

    Really curious about:
Why not coat the entire hood so there isn’t any seam?
What about the leading surfaces of the fenders, as well as the grill and the air dam? Rocks and sand hit them at least as much as the hood.
With a long cure time of ~3 hours, what about possible dust settling; should it be in a separate enclosed bay?
They said it should be cured in direct sunlight. We get about 55% sunny days and half of those are below freezing (Minnesota, which is where 3M is headquartered.) What do we do then?

How does it compare to 22ple?

It’s pretty windy in San Francisco, and there’s a lot of debris in the air. Parking the car outside wouldn’t damage the wet surface?

Just curious, I’ve got an older fiberglass boat that is in really nice condition. It’s never had bottom paint, and I really don’t want to apply it, every year when I take it out of the water in the fall the bottom is a mess. (oil, zebra mussels etc.) Was wondering if this product would work as a seasonal application that could be removed in the fall, or would it fail being below the water line? I would suppose if it failed it would be environmentally hazardous. If you could give some advice on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
