My biggest problem with taping trim is the curves.. thanks for posting this!

Perhaps you’ll cover this in an article to follow, but do you stick with a good quality standard masking tape or do you ever use blue or green painters tape?

      Hi Kevin,

I have used a lot of different types, brands, etc. Until about 1-2 years ago I was using mainly the blue painters tape for delicate surfaces because it was malleable and had a nice edge. However, I started getting annoyed that once it stuck to the surface for a while that, well, it didn’t actually stick after a while :). This made me look at alternatives and that’s when I started using the Meguiar’s tape and the current 3M version. I like the new 3M a lot and I use both the white/offwhite and the green version quite a bit. I’ve also tried frog’s or froggy’s tape (maybe that’s just local to me) and a few others, but really found the current 3M to be the best of all I have ever used before. Hope that helps!

How well does this tape work on plastic surfaces? I was doing some interior painting in my wife’s vehicle and the blue painters paint did not want to adhere to the plastic. Just wondering if you know of a good tape for plastic or if the 3M you talked about is good for it. Thank you.

how can I remove wax from black trim? what’s the best polish to use on my new Camry , it’s been sealed by the dealership, but Id like to polish it to keep to pristine.

For trim I really like to clean it with the Poorboy’s World Trim Restorer, if a degreaser doesn’t work.

As for polishes, they are designed to help remove imperfections from the clear coat and unless they add protection (sealant or wax) they don’t protect the paint by themselves. Check out our Detailing Guide (https://www.detailedimage.com/Auto-Detailing-Guide/) for a few more specifics on each one. It sounds like you’re looking for protection so I would actually recommend an AIO, which is an All In One product. It’ll combine some properties that polishes use and a sealant so you get a polish and protection in one bottle. The Klasse AIO and the Griot’s Finishing Sealant are two great choices. Hope this helps!
