Product Review: The Rag Company Edgeless 300GSM – 500GSM

by

The 500 Eagle Edgeless is perfect for those soft, finicky paints. You know, the ones that you spend hours correcting and then you breathe and damage the finish, and then you want to cry? Just me? Ok, well this towel prevents all of that. The thicker 500 GSM makes it a very plush towel and the longer nap ensures any contamination does not get wiped back onto the finish.

The 420 Creature Edgeless is a great dual sided edgeless towel. Perfect for removing detail spray and wax/sealant. The dual sides allow you to wipe the initial load of the and then flip and buff in the same towel. Of course the edgeless design makes it extremely paint safe.

The 365 Metal Polishing Towel is great for metal polishing and delicate enough not to scratch those high polished aluminum and chrome wheels. Another cost effective option at only $2.99 as metal polishing can really degrade towels and they must be replaced to ensure they are still safe.

The 300 GSM Edgeless is something that is a staple in my arsenal. The low GSM and short nap design give it a nice bite to remove the compound and polish residue and the soft microfiber and edgeless design ensures no damage to the finish. Also a perfect towel for coating removal as it is not only soft and great and removing the product, at only $2.49 plus bulk price savings, it is a cost-effective option when it needs to be disposed of.

Best towels out, I love the 600gsm edgeless, Just wanted to point out that the gray metal polishing towels can be used on paint too. They are the same exact towel as the blue and yellow 365gsm edgeless.

  2. Huge vote for both of these towels. I use the Rag 350gsm purple edgeless for all wiping of compounds and polishes on all paints. For finicky paints I use the purple for compounds and the 550gsm for the polish removal. For finicky paints (typically black) I use the 550gsm towels for both the initial wipe and final wipe for coatings. Then toss those. Same for Gyeon Prep usage.

Buy yourself at least one bulk pack of 350gsm purple towels and at least one of the 500+gsm towels. Only use one type for each process and you never have to worry. Keep what you use simple and consistent so when issue occur, and they will, you have a base line to work from.

I have a Jet Black Aston Martin DB9 which has the most finicky paint I have ever seen. Its almost so finicky that you either PPF the whole vehicle or deal with micro scratches. The 1100gsm Everest towel with a spray detailer or ONR will scratch the surface with micro marring.

So for finicky paint the above works very well allowing you to paint correct with great results and then coat it without causing marring during that process. Just dont ever touch the paint again unless washing it; again using the 350gsm towels and one per panel only. Yea, took me 3 yrs and 2.5 times of polishing to realize the process.
