{"id":16825,"date":"2015-09-08T08:00:45","date_gmt":"2015-09-08T12:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Ask-a-Pro\/?p=16825"},"modified":"2015-09-03T13:49:08","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T17:49:08","slug":"make-your-budget-beater-stand-out-from-the-crowd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Ask-a-Pro\/make-your-budget-beater-stand-out-from-the-crowd\/","title":{"rendered":"Make Your Budget Beater Stand Out From The Crowd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all love looking at photos of expensive high-priced\u00a0exotics, but it is the everyday cheap commuter car that most of us drive\u00a0on a daily basis. \u00a0You do not need to spend a ton of money to drive a car that looks great or\u00a0that you can be proud to own. \u00a0 I recently had the pleasure of helping a client with their 2001 Honda Civic Ex. \u00a0The car was purchased out of a junkyard with over 180,000 miles on it. \u00a0While the interior was in excellent condition given the age of the car, the exterior was in need of some serious attention. \u00a0Nearly every section of the car&#8217;s exterior contained various surface defects.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7777\/18384883001_3f89fef4a8_b.jpg\" alt=\"KMG - Budget Beater\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To start the process the car was thoroughly washed using a strong shampoo to strip and fully clean the surface of the vehicle. \u00a0My process consists of a strong pre-soak with my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/DI-Accessories-M12\/Foam-Lance-P770\/\" target=\"_blank\">DI Foam Lance<\/a>, consisting of 5-oz. of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Chemical-Guys-M31\/Citrus-Wash-P410\/128-oz-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chemical Guys Citrus Wash<\/a> and 1-oz. of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Meguiars-M43\/Super-Degreaser-D108-P379\/\" target=\"_blank\">Meguiar&#8217;s Super Degreaser<\/a>. \u00a0Once applied it is\u00a0left to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Auto-Detailing-Guide\/Dictionary\/Dwell-Time\/\">dwell<\/a> for a few minutes while I prepare for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Auto-Detailing-Guide\/Dictionary\/Two-Bucket-Method\/\">2-bucket method<\/a> wash that will follow.<\/p>\n<p>Following the 2-bucket method wash\u00a0I begin the chemical decontamination of the surface using products such as CarPro&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/CarPro-M54\/IronX-Iron-Remover-P600\/500-ml-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Iron X<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/CarPro-M53\/Tar-X-Tar-Adhesive-Remover-P604\/600-ml-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tar X<\/a>\u00a0to further clean the surface of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Auto-Detailing-Guide\/Dictionary\/Contaminant\/\">contaminates<\/a> not removed during the initial wash process. \u00a0After a thorough rinse of the chemicals from the previous step, the vehicle is washed one last time. \u00a0For this wash I used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/NanoSkin-M54\/AutoScrub-Fine-Wash-Mitt-P701\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nanoskin Autoscrub Fine Wash Mitt<\/a>, which replaces the need to clay bar the vehicle saving a significant amount of time. \u00a0With a nice clean surface at this point, this is when you will visually inspect the surface of the vehicle for any additional surface defects that might have been previously hidden by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Auto-Detailing-Guide\/Glazes\/\">glazes<\/a> or fillers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/489\/18195571760_73b0843f73_b.jpg\" alt=\"KMG - Budget Beater\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This picture shows the top of the hood at the driver side fender which had quite a bit of damage to it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8821\/18195455988_ceca152874_b.jpg\" alt=\"KMG - Budget Beater\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the driver side door which was very heavily swirled and had quite a few random intermittent deep scratches (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Auto-Detailing-Guide\/Dictionary\/RIDS\/\">RIDS<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>At this point the vehicle can be pulled into the garage and the trim is taped off. \u00a0I am now able to determine which pad and polish\/compound combination I will use for my test spot. \u00a0On this car I used the passenger\u00a0front fender as it was\u00a0in very poor shape. \u00a0I simply split the passenger front fender in half with a piece of tape for my test spot. \u00a0Using my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Rupes-M62\/Big-Foot-Random-Orbital-Polisher-P759\/LHR-15ES-15MM-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rupes LHR 15ES<\/a>\u00a0, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Meguiars-M43\/DA-Microfiber-Cutting-Disc-Buffing-Pad-P515\/55-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">5.5&#8243; Meguiar&#8217;s Microfiber Cutting Pad<\/a> with a cutting compound with\u00a05-6 section passes on one half of the fender.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/312\/18356882486_06404b8e16_b.jpg\" alt=\"KMG - Budget Beater\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This picture shows the side of the fender once taped off to start my test spot. \u00a0Notice how heavily swirled and scratched the fender is.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7769\/18195571600_6fd6d8311b_b.jpg\" alt=\"KMG - Budget Beater\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This picture shows the exact same area after being compounded. \u00a0Prior to being compounded you could barely\u00a0even tell the\u00a0paint had a metallic flake to it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7733\/18379191172_2139e6a74c_b.jpg\" alt=\"KMG - Budget Beater\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And a picture after being fully compounded, which was a drastic improvement from what it started as. \u00a0There were still quite a few RIDS left in the finish that were not going to be chased.<\/p>\n<p>This process removed a large amount of the surface defects that were hiding a lot of the metallic and pearl qualities of the paint color. \u00a0After finishing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Auto-Detailing-Guide\/Dictionary\/Compound\/\">compounding<\/a> process, the paint was further refined using Carpro Reflect on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Lake-Country-M7\/Blue-Fine-Finishing-Pad-P61\/65-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lake Country\u00a0Blue Fine Finishing Pad<\/a>\u00a0to remove the marring caused during the compounding process and further improve the gloss and clarity of the paint. \u00a0This process produced great results considering the age and condition of the car prior to starting it. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/CarPro-M53\/Eraser-Intensive-Oil-and-Polish-Cleaner-P603\/16-oz-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">CarPro Eraser Intensive Oil and Polish Cleaner<\/a>\u00a0was used to wipe down the exterior of the car and prepare the surface for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Coatings-C110\/\">paint coating<\/a> that will be applied. \u00a0The coating was applied to all\u00a0painted surfaces, along with all the exterior trim before being pulled out in the sun to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Auto-Detailing-Guide\/Dictionary\/Cure\/\">cure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8811\/18195455758_c29c80b1fc_b.jpg\" alt=\"KMG - Budget Beater\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While I enjoy working on newer and high end cars, it is always enjoyable to take a car that has very little value and drastically increase its value\u00a0after I am finished refining\u00a0it!<\/p>\n<h2>Buy Products From This Article<\/h2>\n<p>Purchase the products used in this article individually or in one convenient package <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Sales\/Make-Your-Budget-Beater-Stand-Out-From-The-Crowd-SP288\/\">here<\/a>!<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Sales\/Make-Your-Budget-Beater-Stand-Out-From-The-Crowd-SP288\/\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"view-article-products\">View Products Now <i class=\"icon-chevron-right\"><\/i><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you have a budget beater that needs a little extra love?
