Identifying defects on darker paint is often quite easy as any direct light will highlight the swirls and scratches in the paint, but what do you do with light colored vehicles?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5693\/22713351355_81ba5d393d_b.jpg\" alt=\"ATD | Inspecting Light Paint\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using bright sunlight or high output\u00a0inspection lights on lighter paint can be overwhelming to your eyes. \u00a0The bright paint may appear washed out, like in the image below, which makes it very difficult to spot\u00a0any of the defects you were\u00a0expecting to see with your lights.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5771\/22346703649_f359415dd0_b.jpg\" alt=\"ATD | Inspecting Light Paint\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Light colored paint combined with bright ambient lights (overhead lighting) and even brighter inspection lighting (spot lights) creates an area that is simply too bright to see any detail. \u00a0For me, the solution to inspecting and working on light colored paint is simple&#8230; turn off the lights! \u00a0All of them except the\u00a0inspection lights that is.<\/p>\n<p>The following\u00a0photo was taken with the <em>exact same<\/em> camera exposure settings and location as the previous image in this article, however the defects are more easily detected in this photo because I\u00a0lowered the ambient light by turning off all of the overhead fluorescent lights\u00a0and allowed the only real source of light to come from my inspection lights.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/724\/22533538845_d1207fccd9_b.jpg\" alt=\"ATD | Inspecting Light Paint\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I will work in a completely dark room with just my inspection lights focused on the panel that I am working on. \u00a0By reducing the ambient light to nearly zero, your inspection lighting no longer makes the paint so\u00a0bright\u00a0to the point where you cannot focus on it without straining your eyes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5742\/22089353624_96f2763839_b.jpg\" alt=\"ATD | Inspecting Light Paint\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hopefully this quick tip will help you to easily improve your correction results with light colored vehicles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having trouble inspecting your light colored vehicle?
