{"id":5870,"date":"2011-09-11T08:07:40","date_gmt":"2011-09-11T12:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Ask-a-Pro\/?p=5870"},"modified":"2016-10-23T23:35:29","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T03:35:29","slug":"2006-lamborghini-gallardo-comprehensive-detail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Ask-a-Pro\/2006-lamborghini-gallardo-comprehensive-detail\/","title":{"rendered":"2006 Lamborghini Gallardo Comprehensive Detail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This was a detail I carried out on a 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo in beautiful Blu Fontus Metallic. \u00a0A dark blue metallic, with blue and grey leather interior. \u00a0The idea of this detail was to bring the car to better-than-new condition in preparation for sale. \u00a0In total, I ended up spending about 18 hours bringing the car to a level it hadn&#8217;t ever been in the past.<\/p>\n<p>As the first pictures will let you know: it wasn&#8217;t driven too much!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6197\/6110675866_063a76cf93_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"406\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6064\/6110132635_87f5903fde_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6181\/6110131439_3e10b61e3a_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I assure you, the writing on the window said &#8220;Sucker.&#8221; The wife found it quite funny&#8211;the husband (my client), no so much!<\/p>\n<p>I carried out the typical <a title=\"two bucket wash\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Ask-a-Pro\/how-to-properly-wash-and-dry-a-car\/\" target=\"_blank\"> two bucket wash<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Utilizing my <a title=\"E-Z Detail Brush\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/DI-Brushes-M51\/E-Z-Detail-Brush-P273\/Full-Size-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">E-Z Detail Brush<\/a> I was able to reach to the back of the barrel, and behind the brake calipers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6085\/6110677684_42b4aeb7c5_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6185\/6110678380_94c4cde56d_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Knowing the leather was light grey, I decided I&#8217;d put on <a title=\"Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Leatherique-M8\/Rejuvenator-Oil-P65\/32-oz-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leatherique Rejuviator Oil<\/a> on right away, before continuing with the rest of the detail, so I could let it set on the leather for as long as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some pictures of the leather before hand:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6181\/6110133835_62ca00f835_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6202\/6110679058_fd47a7545c_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was more of a musty brownish-grey than actual grey! I made sure to give it a healthy dose of <a title=\"Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Leatherique-M8\/Rejuvenator-Oil-P65\/32-oz-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leatherique Rejuviator Oil<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6089\/6110140019_f21fd462eb_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6186\/6110140295_c1b8ee83b1_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the leather was coated, I moved on to the paint. This is where the majority of time is spent during a detail. Here are some before pictures:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6062\/6110135861_5854a8825e_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6205\/6110141613_83c30346da_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Knowing how hard Lamborghini clear coat is, I ended up settling on the combo of <a title=\"M105\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Meguiars-M43\/Ultra-Cut-Compound-M105-P388\/32-oz-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Meguiar&#8217;s M105<\/a> and <a title=\"Surfbuf\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Surbuf-M47\/R-Series-MicroFingers-Buffing-Pads-P485\/2x-55-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Surfbuf<\/a> pads for two passes, on the <a title=\"PC 7424XP\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Porter-Cable-M17\/7424XP-Random-Orbital-Buffer-P331\/\" target=\"_blank\">PC 7424XP<\/a>, and followed that up with <a title=\"Menzerna PO106FA\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Menzerna-M10\/PO106FA-Nano-Polish-Super-Finish-P228\/32-oz-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Menzerna PO106FA Super Finish<\/a> on a <a title=\"Lake Country Tangerine Pad\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Lake-Country-M7\/Hydro-Tech-Tangerine-Ultra-Fine-Polishing-Pad-P407\/55-inch-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lake Country Tangerine Pad<\/a> utilizing my <a title=\"Makita Rotary\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Makita-M42\/9227C-X3-Rotary-Buffer-P373\/\" target=\"_blank\">Makita Rotary<\/a>, as I like to finesse the finish more with a rotary polisher, than I do DA polisher.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most precarious things to detail on the car:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6084\/6110689548_a305a776c1_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first two slats on the left side have been polished, the other three have not. Notice correction wasn&#8217;t perfect, but greatly improved. A steady hand, and careful taping:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6065\/6110689074_e61a95c2b2_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nNotice how the tape on the sides of the slats goes down farther into the body of the car than just the surface. An often-overlooked area when taping.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6067\/6110683250_cc83c1ae8c_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The tail lights were treated in the same manner as the paint:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6078\/6110684538_82e6cf8a77_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6079\/6110686294_be7b556827_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Remember the rear fender pictured above?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6205\/6110141613_83c30346da_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Much better:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6208\/6110687158_7f869ecb0e_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A great 50\/50 of the top of the door, and the top of the rear quarter panel:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6181\/6110143269_b3f740292b_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The top of the door before:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6068\/6110687438_0f4416f6b3_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And once complete:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6086\/6110688658_51d1f4d6a9_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even the small areas around the engine cover were attended to.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6185\/6110689754_1565e20e19_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was a reach, but it was polished out just the same!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6192\/6110145209_42e68d0a0c_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The door is polished out, the front fender has yet to be polished:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6087\/6110690562_3a35d845c5_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even the clear engine cover was polished with an <a title=\"Optimum Poli-Seal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Optimum-OPT-M36\/Poli-Seal-P292\/32-oz-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">all-in-one.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6194\/6110692440_f643a9c940_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is the engine bay before:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6193\/6110147683_6081c104bb_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And after being conditioned with <a title=\"303 Aerospace Protectant\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/303-M2\/Aerospace-Protectant-P12\/32-oz-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">303 Aerospace Protectant<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6074\/6110148049_f5505f9cff_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t forget about the leather, don&#8217;t worry! After the <a title=\"Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Leatherique-M8\/Rejuvenator-Oil-P65\/32-oz-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leatherique Rejuviator Oil<\/a> had almost two days to soak in to the leather hide, I followed Todd&#8217;s <a title=\"Leatherique write-up\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Ask-a-Pro\/leatherique-leather-care-how-to\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leatherique Write-Up<\/a> to properly remove the Rejuvinator Oil, and <a title=\"Leatherique Prestine Clean\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Leatherique-M8\/Prestine-Clean-P64\/32-oz-S2\/\" target=\"_blank\">condition<\/a> the hide.<\/p>\n<p>For whatever reason, I didn&#8217;t take any &#8220;after&#8221; pictures of the interior, but here is a 50\/50 showing the difference the Leatheriqe made to the leather. The two cushions on the right have been properly &#8220;de-browned,&#8221; and the left two are still awaiting their final treatment!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6191\/6110693480_98ba10d4f2_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, after 18 hours of work over two days, the car was complete!
