{"id":931,"date":"2010-02-06T09:08:58","date_gmt":"2010-02-06T14:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Ask-a-Pro\/?p=931"},"modified":"2010-08-29T20:57:57","modified_gmt":"2010-08-30T00:57:57","slug":"ask-a-pro-how-to-clean-sealants-and-wax-from-pads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Ask-a-Pro\/ask-a-pro-how-to-clean-sealants-and-wax-from-pads\/","title":{"rendered":"Ask-A-Pro: How to Clean Sealants and Wax from Pads?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brent asks some questions about cleaning the pads used for applying waxes and sealants:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Just wondering if there is an easy way to clean foam pads that have hard to remove sealants\/wax on them? <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hi Brent.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the chemical makeup of some waxes and sealants, they can be challenging to thoroughly remove from foam pads.<\/p>\n<p>The first method I would try is to use any products you have in your arsenal that are good for removing waxes and sealants from the painted surfaces&#8230;products like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/P21S-M14\/Total-Auto-Wash-P87\/1000-ml-Kit-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">P21S Total Auto Wash<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Chemical-Guys-M31\/Citrus-Wash-P410\/16-oz-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chemical Guys Citrus Wash<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Chemical-Guys-M31\/Citrus-Wash-P410\/16-oz-S1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner Plus<\/a>. If you don&#8217;t have any of those items on hand, then soak them in a bucket with a product like Dawn dishwashing liquid. You may have to let them soak for several hours, or even overnight.\u00a0 Another good option is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detailedimage.com\/Lake-Country-M7\/Snappy-Clean-Pad-Cleaner-P62\/\">Lake Country Snappy Clean<\/a>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a citrus based cleaner designed to help restore your pads to a like new condition after each detail.<\/p>\n<p>You may find that the sealant or wax that you&#8217;re using simply doesn&#8217;t want to completely come out of the pad. If that is the case, then you can do like I do and designate that particular pad for that particular product. After you&#8217;ve washed the pad and allowed it to dry, just put\u00a0it\u00a0in a plastic baggie and mark it accordingly.
