Interview With Scott Weaver Of SW Detail, Based In Sarasota

Scott Weaver is the owner of SW Detail also known as SW Detailing.  I was inspired to connect with Scott for a couple of reasons.  Scott’s reputation online is incredible.  If anyone has an opportunity to read the reviews about SW Detailing, it is obvious he provides an amazing service.  What is even more important is his demonstration of integrity, which includes not taking on every service request when it can potentially damage a vehicle.  Even at the risk of his perfect reputation and turning down profits, he stood on his principles.  This is something many customers and business owners do not understand.  We also share a common challenge.  We are both mobile operators who perform high level work.  There is a popular assumption that quality services can only be performed by detailing shops.  We both have worked hard to successfully overcome that stereotype.

Rodney:  What inspired you to start SW Detailing?

Scott:  Honestly, I’ve always loved cars and keeping them clean.  What pushed me to start SW Detailing was seeing that Sarasota didn’t have a lot of mobile guys doing true high-end work.  Most mobile guys were just doing quick washes or cheap details, and I knew I could bring something better.  I wanted to show people that you could get shop-level results without leaving your driveway.

Rodney:  Some people in and out of the detailing industry fail to take mobile detailers seriously as luxury service providers, especially compared to a shop.  Can you tell me about the challenges of overcoming the stigma of the mobile detailer?

Scott:  That’s definitely been a hurdle.  A lot of people hear “mobile” and immediately think budget, fast, and average.  For me, it was about proving them wrong every single time.  I had to let my work do the talking.  Once people saw the results, the stigma went away quick.  At the end of the day, customers don’t care if you’re mobile or in a shop — they care about how their car looks and the experience they get.

Rodney:  Can you tell me about the advantages that you have and enjoy being a mobile and low volume detailer?

Scott:  The best part about being mobile and low-volume is freedom and control.  I don’t have to push cars through just to make numbers.  I can slow down, take my time, and really focus on each vehicle.  And being mobile, I make life easier for customers because I come to them.  It’s less about volume for me and more about being the guy people know will do it right the first time.

Rodney:  Being perhaps no longer the best kept secret in the Sarasota area, what do you attribute to your success?

Scott:  Honestly just being consistent.  I’ve never cut corners, and I’ve always treated customers the right way.  I built my reputation one car at a time, and word of mouth spread.  Sarasota’s not that big — when you do good work, people talk.  I think that’s been the biggest driver of my success.
