Ask-A-Pro: Microfiber Bonnets For Use On a Porter Cable

I’ve Seen Microfiber and terry cloth bonnets that basically look like a shower cap for your polisher, their intent is to aid in removal or applying waxes/sealants and such.. just curious if you guys have used these or have other ways of using a PC to remove polish and wax.  ~Josh

I’ve tried these in the past out of curiosity for the removal of wax, and quite frankly I wasn’t very impressed. First of all they don’t use the highest quality of microfiber so you could potentially cause micromarring in the process. Secondly they clog up with residue (especially with wax) pretty quickly. When doing it by hand with a high quality microfiber towel, it’s much easier control pressure as needed and you can also quickly flip your folded towel to expose a clean area.

For polish removal, I only recommend doing this by hand with a plush microfiber towel. You want to be as gentle as possible with a freshly polished surface, and the goal is to touch the paint as little as possible and with the least aggressive methods after you have done so. Wiping down by hand would also go much quicker in my opinion (and experience).

About the only process I use the Porter Cable for outside of polishing is the application of sealants such as Blackfire Wet Diamond or Menzerna Power Lock, or cleaning / bonding agents like Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze or 408 Vertua-Bond.

For polish removal or wax application and removal, I’d recommend that you stick to doing it by hand!
