Product Review: Griot’s Garage PFM Terry Weave Drying Towel

“Pure Freakin’ Magic”

“Pure Freakin’ Magic” is what PFM stands for and, in my opinion, the Griot’s Garage PFM Terry Weave Drying Towels are just that! Having used many different drying towels over the years, including some similarly priced ones, I simply fell in love with these after the very first use. Admittedly, I was hesitant about the higher purchase price point but Jeff Brown from Griot’s Garage was kind enough to give me a sample to try out of the gate and from that point on I have slowly been adding the PFMs to replace all my older waffle weave towels.

Product Description (From Griot’s)

This Griot’s Garage exclusive is a rock star. Its innovative long-loop weave gives you the speed and convenience of one-pass drying and the capacity of one towel, one vehicle performance. Just lay it flat, drag it across your car, and watch the water droplets disappear. Made from the best microfiber in the automotive realm, this towel delivers unrivaled drying power but its thick, long-fiber terry weave doesn’t produce the surface tension and drag that’s common with other ultra-thick towels. Our ultra-premium microfiber features rounded corners trimmed with bound-in satin edging that increases durability. Measures 25″ x 35″.

Thoughts and Observations

As I previously mentioned, these towels have replaced all my other drying towels. Just one PFM drying towel is enough to dry just about any full-size vehicle where previously I would need at least two waffle weave towels. I feel that the longer nap terry weave design offers better protection against marring from debris over the thinner waffle weave towels which have little to no nap. Unlike some other long-nap MF towels with cut MF ends that tend to leave tiny fibers or lint behind, the unique design of the PFM towels allows for lint-free drying. While I prefer the large drying towel size, at least for traditional washing, some may find the 25″ x 35″ to be too large and heavy. Have no fear, these towels are also available in a smaller 16″ x 16″ design, which I actually find better suited for ONR washing where there is little water on the surface. The only potentially negative thing I could say about these towels is that they are a bit expensive and the terry loop design can snag on things like sharp badges that protrude out, though with care this should be a non-issue. Below is a quick video showing how well these towels absorb water and one of the reasons I like these towels so much (Watch in HD).

Conclusion, Final Thoughts

Although the initial purchase price is a bit more than traditional units, these towels really are on another level, doing the work of two or more lower priced towels. I also feel they out-perform the other equally high-dollar drying towels I’ve used. I truly believe if you give these a try you will find yourself replacing your other drying towels and will be as happy as I have been with the investment.
