How To Apply A Paint Coating

While the idea of “wipe on, wipe off” still applies, the application process of coatings differs quite a bit from both sealants and waxes. Rather than applying to the entire car, waiting some period of time to cure, then removing the residue, a coating application is done panel by panel and sometimes even sections of a single panel due to its quick drying time. In the video above, James Melfi demonstrates how to properly apply a paint coating!

Hey, James with Detailed Image. After you polish your paint and remove the imperfections, it’s now time to add protection. Paint coatings are the latest technologies in the evolution in car care. I am going to show you how to apply a coating and take your finish to the next level. You want to first remove any polishing oils and residue with an isopropyl alcohol wipe down. Apply several drops of the coating onto an applicator. Spread evenly on the panel on 2×2 section using overlapping passes. After an entire panel has been coated, you want to remove the residue with the 3 towel system. The first microfiber towel removes the majority of the residue, while the other two paired with an LED light ensure all the residue has been removed. Depending on what coating you are using, allow 1-2 hours to cure before applying the coating topper. Now your vehicle is ready for the elements.
