Product Review | CarPro Reload
by James MelfiCarPro Reload is a versatile, silica-based spray sealant offering exceptional gloss and durability characteristics…all in an easy to use package.
Reload was originally designed as a ceramic coating topper, but once everyone got their hands on it, it soon was used as a standalone sealant…offering durability up to six months on daily drivers. We have used Reload in our shop since it was first released and have enjoyed the quick and effective nature in sealing automotive paint, but Reload doesn’t stop at just paint. We have grown to use it extensively on wheels, glass, exterior trim. Reload produces a glass-like super slick surface which has fantastic water beading properties. Throughout the years, we have tried many different spray sealants but always seem to come back to Reload based on just how easy and quick it is to seal an entire car. A few towels, a bottle of Reload and about 15 minutes of your time and your vehicle is sealed, shiny and ready to go. How can you beat that!?
Reload does have many strengths but isn’t without its own unique flaws. It does have the potential to streak if used improperly and have an oily appearance if too much is used. Not to worry, over the years we have picked up a few tips to get rid of these issues. Below we have comprised a list of steps to get the most out of your Reload application.
STEP 1
Wash and clay your vehicle using a citrus based prep shampoo like Chemicals Guys Citrus Wash and a Nanoskin Fine Grade Autoscrub Mitt. Removing all traces of any dirt, grime and bonded contamination will only improve the durability and performance of Reload.
STEP 2
Wipe the paintwork down with a 50/50 mixture of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and distilled water. This will remove any previous protection and ensure that Reload can properly bond to the surface it is being applied to.
STEP 3
Set aside two microfiber towels and your bottle of Reload. Short nap microfiber towels, such as the ones pictured below, seem to spread Reload evenly and allow for easier removal. One towel will be used to apply Reload and the other will be your leveling towel.
STEP 4
Spray 1-2 light mists of Reload onto the application short nap microfiber towel and spread over a 2′ x 2′ sized panel. Once spread, flip the towel to a clean side and wipe away the product residue. After you have wiped the product off, grab the second towel and wipe the area again insuring no residue is left on the surface. The key to application is to not over spread as this could lead to the product flashing too quickly and leaving high spots. If, for some reason, you see any oily holograms or streaks, grab a third towel and lightly dampen it. Wipe the surface with the damp towel…followed again with the second dry towel which should eliminate any issues. When we apply Reload, we wipe the panel down in small sections with zero pressure and even straight line motions.
STEP 5
Enjoy the beading and protection.
Reload works wonders on wheels. Simply spray directly on the wheel and wipe using an all-purpose microfiber.
Reload going directly on glass.
A nice finishing touch to any interior trim.
No polishing…just the gloss of CarPro Reload.

Thanks James. Never gave it much thought to using RELOAD on interior components. Great tips for success.
Thanks Steve, It works awesome on any gloss trim and leaves a crisp non tacky finish on leather while leaving some protection behind.
I also hadn’t ever considered using Reload on interiors. Great post. Thanks.
Thanks Bob, something different but works really well
I didn’t have good results with Reload and complained to CarPro and I got a “user error” answer. Wrong answer. Finally the CarPro boss has said that they changed the formula on the 2015 to early 2016 and it did not work correctly. They say they now have gone back to the 2014 formula that works, yea! If you have an old bottle that does not work contact the retailer to get a new bottle. CarPro has replaced the non working bottles of product. This is the only CarPro product I have disliked besides Fogfight. Thank you CarPro for fixing your error. Kudos.
Robert, Thanks for the reply.
I have had similar Reload issues over the years but this latest formula has really worked well. No streams, easy to buff off and extremely versatile.
Great review. I have used reload along with Essence on probably 10 cars now. I have found that I have gotten excellent results by applying it with a foam applicator and allowing it to sit on the paint for a minute or two before wiping it off. I have had no problems removing the product or high spots. I believe I read it was a polymer product so by leaving it on for a short time it should allow the polymers to branch out and form polymer chains adding to durability. In any case I have not problems doing it like this.
Ralph, Thanks for the reply,
Ive messed around with different Essence removal times what I’ve found to work best when using it as a polishing primer was about 30 seconds. Then after applying it to the whole vehicle waiting about 1 hour before applying your protection product like CarPro Reload. Using this method Essence is easy to remove and the durability of the protection product seems to be enhanced.
Maybe a rookie question, but in regards to the IPA Wipedown… Is it common that certain products still have fillers remaining after the IPA wipedown?
In certain scenarios I feel the correction process turned out “too good to be true”. And I did a double wipedown with CarPro Eraser. Still great results.
Any insight would be helpfull, thank you.
I am putting crystal serum light on my car this weekend without exo. I have some reload on hand. Is there any benefit or disadvantage to using reload as a topper? Any issues I should be Aware Of?
can you use over a layer a wax? or is this a stand alone product
Darren, this will be a stand alone product that will last 6 or more months depending on preperation. After applying the product you can then top the sealant with a wax.

Hi
May i know if i can use other shampoo aside from carpro reset to wash the car protected by reload such as chemical guys mr pink?
Does this provide UV protection for headlights? I recently performed a headlight restoration job on my wife’s Acura TL headlights. They now look almost new. I want to apply a sealant to help protect and prevent from turning yellow.
Does the paint need to be of any old waxed or sealants before CarPro Reload is applied? Is there a curing time once applied?

Dear James – I have a jet black Nissan 370 which is coated (Optimum Gloss Coat) and topped with Reload.
I also have Dodo Juice Blue Velvet – can was be put over Reload? I don’t mind re-applying monthly as I love working on my car.
Is wax a wasted effort over Reload?
Is there “refresher” that can restore the hydrophobic effects of Reload without having to strip down to the coating?
Any maintenance suggestions for Reload?
Thanks,
Hi, I’m not James, but Reload is the topper to refresh the coating. You could apply a wax over Reload but you would have diminishing beading and possibly less gloss, but you won’t hurt anything by applying a wax over Reload. Personally I would just skip the Reload and put the wax over the coating. Chemically they are not compatible and the wax may not last as long as it normally would but this is supposed to be a fun hobby, right! Enjoy your car. BTW I have owned 3 370Zs all convertibles, 1 black and 2 red.
