Product Review: Optimum Hyper Polish

by

KMG - Hyper Polish

I have used a lot of polishes since first starting out in detailing, and in my opinion Optimum Hyper Polish is one of the most under rated polishes on the market.  I have not found a job that I haven’t been able to use this on yet.  Don’t let the medium cut rating of this versatile polish fool you, it finishes down just as nice as any finishing polishes on the market while removing some pretty major defects.

Product Description

Paint Perfect in a Spray
This ground-breaking spray polish is fast cutting, ZERO dusting, and user friendly. The Optimum Hyper Spray Polish contains a unique blend of proprietary polymers and polishing agents that will rapidly remove swirls and minor blemishes while producing brilliant gloss and clarity. Optimum Hyper Spray Polish is what you have been looking for, but until now, never existed!

Directions

DIRECTIONS: Always shake well before using. This polish can be used for rapid swirl removal while creating brilliant gloss and clarity. For swirl removal, use a polishing foam pad with a rotary buffer at 1200-1600 RPM. One to two sprays per 2 foot area will suffice. More is not needed as the product will keep cutting and has a long working time. Product can be sprayed on panel or directly on the pad. Use medium to light pressure to crate perfect results in a brief amount of time. Product will act more aggressively if used with a more aggressive foam pad or a wool pad while still creating deep gloss. Product can also be used with an orbital buffer with ANY choice of foam pad if desired. Wipe off residue with a dampened microfiber towel. For heavier compounding and sand scratch removal, use the Optimum Hyper Spray Compound. VOC compliant and body shop safe.

This is a picture from one of my most recent projects that I had worked on.  This is a 2008 Nissan Xterra in midnight blue, a stunning color when not masked behind all these paint defects.  The exterior of this vehicle had all of the major defects that you see on a lot of used cars.  It had swirling, which was quite easy to see, rotary burns (holograms) and quite a few random intermittent deep scratches (RIDS).  For almost all the vehicles I have worked on this year, the first product I reach for is Hyper Polish.

KMG - Hyper Polish

Hyper Polish is one of the easier polishes you will work with due to its long work time.  You could literally work this product all day and it won’t dry out or dust.  Hyper Polish is unique in that it contains both diminishing abrasives (longer you work the more they will cut) and ultra-fine micro abrasives which cut through the entire work cycle.  This means that you will have excellent cut through your entire work cycle.  I typically start out with a Lake Country White Polishing Pad as my first test, and if this does not give me the results I am looking for I will step up to the Lake Country Orange Light Cutting Pad.  To prime the pad on your initial use you will shake the bottle well and apply 2-3 sprays onto the pad.  Unlike other polishes where you need to work it into the pad to prime, the spray makes it easy to apply product to the entire surface of the pad so you do not need to work the product into the pad.  Once primed you simply only need 1-2 sprays on the pad per panel depending on the size of the panel you’re working on.

KMG - Hyper Polish

You will notice that as your wiping the surface that your microfiber does seem to build up with polish.  You will need to use quite a few clean towels when using this polish to go around the whole vehicle.  The above picture is the results of Hyper Polish on a Lake Country Orange Light Cutting Pad using my Griot’s THE BOSS G21.  This combination worked beautifully on this paint as you can see in the picture.  There are still some RIDS remaining in the finish, but the depth, gloss and clarity is now outstanding.

Here is another picture on the driver side door showing an area that was polished in the center of the door.  If you are looking for a product that is very easy to use and will provide outstanding results, Optimum Hyper Polish is that product.

This is a picture of the vehicle after being finished and coated with a professional paint coating.  The owner of the vehicle couldn’t believe it was the same vehicle as the color appeared so different after being properly polished and coated.

  1. Great article, Kevin! Those pics are excellent. We also really enjoy OHP… a great product that can cut well and finish very well.

I don’t see the last picture that you talked about.

  3. Raymon Samuel says:

I don’t see the last picture that you talked about. Also, do you wax after?

    • Kevin George says:

Raymon, I am not sure what picture you are talking about? You will want to use a wax, sealant or paint coating after use this product as it is strictly a polish and will over no protection. The vehicle in this example was finished off with a professional paint coating however.

  4. Recently purchased Optimum Hyper Polish…Now…
it is my number one polish of choice.

  5. …and…I love this Blog!

    • Kevin George says:

Thats awesome mang. Ive actually never put a machine polisher to a car yet because im still trying to learn all I can. In my endeavors and research, I follow Optimum products very closely. Even though I own a bottle of Hyper Polish and never used it, I believe it to be a pretty unique product. The reason for that is because the developers of the product give you a glimpse of what it took to develop it. This is the article. http://www.optimumcarcare.com/articles/SoManyProducts.Page%2050.pdf?false=false. Its a good read and youll learn to appreciate the product more.

    • Kevin George says:

Thanks Tuan. Optimum does make some great products that will always have a place in my cabinet. Hopefully you find the Ask-a-Pro Blog as a useful tool in your quest to gain knowledge and begin your detailing endeavor.

    • Bob Crouch says:

I was a rookie at paint correction using a DA machine and chose to use optimum products …Are use the famous oh and our for a car wash and also for a spray bottle lube for their Claybar towel….another first for me. I am so glad I did because their products are so easy to work with and also prove to be very economical because they don’t require a lot of product so the bottle goes a very long way. I tried a few other company products (Griot’s Garage and Rupes ) on my other cars but the Optimum products work so easily, didn’t dry up fast so I didn’t have to worry about application time. it buffed off effortlessly and even left a great shine what more could you ask for?!

  7. Zach says:

Hope I don’t sounds like a total rookie here. But, what makes this product so likeable and your go to?
    It seems kinda expensive.
Also, if there a number of traditional polishes out there that can yield similar results… why chose this one.

    • Kevin George says:

Zach, thanks for your comment. What I honestly like about this product is how versatile it is. As can be seen in the pictures above this provides a great deal of cut for a polish, yet still finishes down excellent on even the softest of finishes. I also actually really like the spray feature. I typically will spray the pad 2-3 times to prime the pad, and after that you only need one spray per section pass so the 18 oz. bottle should last you quite awhile. Honestly with polishes most can yield very similar results, however the working process just seems to be nicer with this product in my opinion. Give it a try I am sure you won’t regret it.

  8. Jonathan Vincent says:

Hey Kevin, I do mostly collision detailing for BMW. I like M100 or M 101 for removing 1500-2000 grit. Would you recommend Optimum Hyper Compound for this? Do you think it could hold up?
    Thanks
    Jonathan Vincent

    • Kevin George says:

Jonathan, I have not used Hyper Compound for any heavy correction work yet. I really like using Griot’s Garage Fast Correcting Cream (FCC) which is on par with most of the heavy compounds, however I think the work ability of FCC is much better then most. I am by no means saying that Hyper Compound is not a good compound, just saying I have not used it enough to know the full potential of it. Going by some of the compound charts post on the web they are showing Hyper Compound as having less cut then the products you currently use, however I do not find the charts to always be 100% accurate. Hopefully that answers your question and thanks for taking the time to read this post.

  9. Al S. says:

Kevin: Can you comment on the best method for cleaning pads “on the fly” while using Hyper Polish? Is it recommended to use a pad brush after completing each section, etc.? Also, how often should one switch out pads while using this product? Your results on the Xterra look great! Thanks for your reply…

    • Kevin George says:

Al, I typically brush my pad after every section pass. As for changing pads I will typically do 2 or 3 panels with a panel then change to a new pad. I think I went through 4 or 5 pads when I did this Xterra. Thanks for the comment and I was very pleased with how it came out as was the owner.

  10. Danny Weston says:

I just purchased the Optimum line Hyper Compound Hyper Polish and the Glaze Polish Sealant and can’t wait to use them
I hope I can get the same results

  11. Andrew Ward says:

Hi Kevin, I have just used the polish on my 911 and it worked beautifully. The only issue that I had was going through three different sprayer heads and still not finding one that misted the product on the pad. All I got was a stream in each case. Have you had this happen by any chance? Cheers, Andrew.

  12. Frank says:

Man o man I love you guys..your write ups are amazing and truly help us out..thanks a bunch!!

  13. Vdub Beet says:

I realize this review was more than a year ago however, can Optimum Hyper Polish be used on a vehicle’s glass? I have a feeling the answer is yes but before I did something I’d regret, I had to ask. Thanks in advance.

    • Kevin George says:

I don’t see any reason you couldn’t use it on glass. Most polishes are safe to use on glass and shouldn’t hurt anything. Are you trying to remove water spots?

  14. Michael Olandese says:

I thought this was new? is there a new better formula?
