Industry Interview: Justin Tapia of Bioworx!
by Reece @ DICan you tell us a little about yourself and how you got involved with the business?
Hi, I’m Justin, and I’m one of the co-owners of Bioworx Bio-Based Auto Care Products. Cars have been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I knew I wanted to do something car related, so I started out detailing after high school. The detailing business was competitive in my area, and I wanted to stand out, so I decided to specialize in Porsche detailing right here in Arizona. That niche helped me establish my name, and it eventually led to the creation of Bioworx.
How did the business get started?
Bioworx came to life out of a need I saw firsthand while working as a detailer. I was spending 10+ hours a day surrounded by harsh chemicals, which took a toll on my skin and my lungs. My hands were constantly cracked and dry, and I was inhaling toxic fumes day after day. I was searching for a natural alternative but couldn’t find anything that met my needs. That’s when I reached out to my business partner, an expert in natural product formulation with nearly 30 years of experience. Together, we developed products that not only solved those health concerns but also raised the bar in terms of performance and sustainability.
Obviously, you have a strong focus on environmentally friendly products. What are the key requirements for your products?
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. All our products are made from plant-based ingredients and certified by the USDA BioPreferred program. This means that a significant portion of each product is derived from renewable biological resources. We don’t just talk about being green, we prove it through third-party testing that verifies both bio-based content and biodegradability. These certifications set a higher standard in the industry and ensure our products meet the toughest environmental criteria.
How do you develop products?
Product development is the most challenging yet rewarding part of our business. It’s a long and careful process. Since we use primarily plant-derived ingredients, we need to ensure that every product performs as well, if not better, than its chemical counterparts. Once we finalize a formulation, it enters an extensive testing and certification phase, which can take up to 90 days. This is where the real work happens, and we’re committed to getting it right before bringing anything to market.
What feedback have you been getting from detailers?
The feedback from detailers has been overwhelmingly positive, especially from the newer generation entering the field. Many are excited to have safer, more sustainable alternatives to traditional products. It’s clear that detailers are looking for better options, and it’s great to see them embrace the bio-based movement.
What have been some of the biggest challenges with this business?
The biggest challenge has been education. Bio-based products are still a relatively new concept in the industry, and many people aren’t yet aware of the benefits they offer. While sustainability is increasingly important, many are still unfamiliar with USDA certifications and the rigor behind BioPreferred standards. We spend a lot of time educating detailers, car owners, and the broader community about the advantages of switching to bio-based products, whether it’s for their health or the environment.
Are there any new items being worked on that you can share with us or give us a hint about?
We’re always innovating! We have a few exciting new products in the certification phase right now. Stay tuned to our social media channels and Detailed Image for updates. We can’t wait to share more with you soon!
Good luck on your adventure !!!!!
I have used their products as I was intrigued by being bio based. All of the products I have used work well. This was a great write up introducing many to the Bioworx brand.
