10 comments on Ask-A-Pro: What Polish, Sealant, and Wax for a New Car?

Todd, I have a 2010 Camaro with the vinyl stripes on the hood and deck lid. Should I avoid getting wax or sealant on the vinyl? Is there a product I should be using on them? Thanks, Rick

    • Rick,

The only thing you need to be careful of with the vinyl is if you’re using paste wax. This has a tendency of building up and leaving a white residue (with most paste waxes) at the edges of the vinyl or clear bra.

You can use spray waxes or sealants right over top of it without any issues. Products that are easy to use in these situations are Optimum Car Wax or Opimum Opti-Seal.

      Enjoy that new Camaro!

      Todd

        Hi Todd,

If paste wax has a tendency of leaving build up and leaving a white residue, what do you suggest for easy removal of this residue. Please provide an alternative to P21S APC. Some Poorboy product left residue in it’s liquid form and I need to get this off the porous trim on my 2010 GT500.

        Thanks,

        Tom G.

I just purchased a new Accord and want to prep the car for many years to come. I have Meguire product, the polish, liquid wax, and spray wax. Which should I use? I have not yet washed the car either and normally use the Meguires gold class car wash. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

I bought stuff from Adam’s polishes for my new suv. I got the clay bar, buttery wax and glass cleaner and sealant. I also got the H20 guard and gloss i think this is a sealant and their detail spray. Any recommendations/tips on where to start what i need to use first?

Oh and i got some markings on my wheels looks like its from a marker any idea on how to take it out? I got the adam’s wheel cleaner just scared if its gonna harm my low gloss bronze wheels.
    Thanks!!!

I just purchased a 2019 Honda Insight color Black Pearl. I live in Upstate New York. What is the easiest and most durable polish that you recommend for this vehicle?
