Behind the Scenes: A Look into a PPF installation

by

Source: YouTube

In this video we take you along during a Full Front End PPF installation on a 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S in Chalk Grey. We start with a wash and decontamination to remove any loose and embedded dirt. We then move the vehicle onto the PPF lift and start the post wash prep. We purge out the body seems, remove small components and inspect the panels with LED lights. Once signed off it’s time to start laying film. It’s the culmination of many small details that create a high quality installation. I like to categorize the PPF installation process into four main sections, preparation – initial film install – finishing work – final inspection. If you have any questions on the installation process- just comment below.

Just one question. I was always told that a squeegee would leave fine marks in the paint. No?

    Thanks,

Using a squeegee is not recommended if you are looking to simply dry a vehicle. A microfiber drying towel and/or a blower is much easier, more efficient and safer to use for this type of process. The squeegee used to apply PPF however, is needed to help remove water under the film, avoid creasing and aid in seamless application.

      Hey Dave,

Great question, A traditional water blade should not be used for drying your vehicle after a wash- as the risk can be high in marring the finish if any dirt has remained on the surface. In this particular situation, we have washed, dried, and wiped the paintwork down with IPA before using the blade as a means to remove any last trace of dust before the film installation.

      James
