Product Description
Flex Power Tools was created in 1922 in Germany and their amazing tools are now available in the United States. We are very proud to be one of the first companies in the US to carry the next generation of orbital polishers with the Flex XC 3401 VRG. Orbital polishers are much safer than rotary units because they generate less heat than a rotary while still providing excellent polishing power. Flex has done an outstanding job combining the best of both worlds by making such a powerful unit that poses virtually no risk of burning factory paint with proper usage. The Flex XC 3401 VRG can handle virtually any step from delicately applying your favorite sealant or working in a polishing compound for strong paint correction. The ultra smooth power allows you to buff out swirls and fine scratches, so you can restore a transparent clear coat. The Flex XC3401 VRG and Porter Cable 7424 have some similarities and differences that are outlined below. Both polishers move in a random orbit or oscillating motion, designed to replicate a hand buffing motion. They are both approximately 6 lbs so they are relatively light and easy to use. The Porter Cable 7424 XP requires you to purchase an after market backing plate while the Flex polisher comes with a built in 5.5" hook and loop backing plate. With the stock backing plate we recommend the 6.5" inch pads from Lake Country. Both units offer different size backing plates that allow you to use different size pads. The pads used for both units are interchangeable so any pads you have with one polisher you can use with the other, as long as you have the right size backing plate. The Porter Cable 7424 XP has a speed dial that is the only means of adjusting the speed. The Flex polisher has a speed dial which sets the maximum speed you can reach with the variable speed trigger. Hold the trigger down lightly and it will operate at low OPMs and squeeze it tightly to reach the maximum OPMs relative to what speed you have the dial set to. You can lock in the trigger so you don't have to continuously hold it at any speed, just click the button in and you're all set. The Flex XC 3401 VRG has a larger motor with over 40% more power than the Porter Cable 7424 XP (9,600 OPMs vs. 6,800 OPMs). This allows the Flex polisher to provide you more cutting power to remove deeper imperfections when and if you desire. The additional power will help ensure your buffing pad will not bog down under moderate to heavy pressure. Both buffers have a detachable handle, but the Flex's bail handle is positioned directly over the unit as opposed to on the side. The design puts your hands at 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock, so your hands are equidistant from the middle of the buffer, which helps you evenly distribute pressure for even results
The Flex polisher also comes with many other technological advancements that make it one of the premier polishers on the market. Flex uses seven-fold microprocessor electronics: with consistent speed control by tachometer generator, soft start, accelerator trigger switch, restart protection after power interruption, overload protection, temperature monitoring, and speed selection. The oscillating motion moves the polisher precisely 8mm during one orbit. The handle is removable and easy to hold so you can detail for hours with no problems. Quality shut-off carbon brushes: if the carbon brushes wear down, the motor will be automatically switched off and thus protected from damage. There is spindle lock to prevent damage as well. The Flex units come with a one year warranty and service centers across the US can provide expert repairs if ever needed. This helps ensure that you'll be using this high quality polisher for years to come. So whether you are a new detailer or a savvy professional detailer the Flex can help you work faster and more efficiently while still safe and easy to use. The Flex XC 3401 VRG is a premium polisher that you will love for years to come so pick one up today!

I LOVE this machine! It's my right hand. I'm a 41 year old female yacht detailer. It takes a bit of getting used to compared to a Griots G9, porter cable and other random orbital DA's. However, this machine is unmatched in my opinion and worth every penny. It delivers beautiful results even on the toughest gel coat. Skills are of course necessary to accompany the machine. For me, it's almost a 3 in 1 machine since it's got similarities to a rotary buffer, yet gentle enough to apply wax or sealant but in a much faster manner. I love the forced rotation. It saves a ton of time and frustration getting through all the nooks and crannies and curves. I haven't yet used it on paint but I will be at some point. The only disappointment I faced was the cord was fairly bent at the bottom entrance of the machine from shipping. I'm hoping it doesn't cause issues with bare wire or bad connection later down the line. 10 out of 10 HIGHLY recommend!
I'd like to add one more thing to my previous comment. I'm a yacht detailer. Often times I'm working on gel coat that has buffer swirls. This machine spins the opposite direction which counteracts the swirls and removes them so much faster! Also, if you are a typical DA user, I recommend learning the movement of the machine at a 2-3 speed and holding it sideways like a rotary. Applying pressure to one side or the other of the top palm grip as well as slightly twisting the handle to the same side helps the machine flow side to side/up down much easier. It's like dancing, feel the machine and what it's doing in reaction to your technique. I've been using one of these for over a year now almost daily and my Griots and Porter cable are sadly just collecting dust in the corner. Shipping and service was fast and on point!

The machine has a 25' cord, which was a big selling point. Another big point is the geared DA head, which means no disc stalling in difficult contoured areas. The machine is being used with foam polishing pads on a marine gelcoat. Even with heavy pressure, the machine runs cool. I never used a DA on gelcoat before. I am now appreciating not having swirls that you get from a rotary polisher. In short, very pleased with the polishing results. The results are further appreciated after paste waxing. Based on my 10-12 hrs of experience, I highly recommend this polisher to anyone.
Because it's a forced rotation the polisher is heavy and the backing plates are awkward sizes those are the downfalls but besides that great machinery
