If you plan to do buffing work this tape and its other sized variants are a must to protect your various trim pieces properly. This tape stays in place well and will not come up from a light kiss from a DA. Not only does the 3M automotive tape line up stay in place well for the most part, but it is very easy to remove while leaving zero residue behind.
Now what about painters tape? Painters tape does none of the above. It isn't meant for this kind of work. If you use painters tape you will find it won't stay in place well at all and it can leave behind residue. Use the real stuff like 3M automotive tape when needing to protect trim components properly from a buffer.
