Like your skin your clear coat is porous and has many fine ridges in it where contamination may become embedded or lodged. A normal car wash will not remove contaminates trapped in the clear coat’s micro-ridges, therefore a clay bar may be needed to remove them. Clay bars are also great to use on glass, wheels and coated trim.
